19 Sep Empowering Underprivileged Maize Farmers in Rwanda! π·πΌ
We’re thrilled to announce our project with Mahwi Grain Millers Ltd. (Mahwi) to uplift underprivileged and smallholder maize farmers in Rwanda. In the project, we arranged a 250,000β¬ grant for a two-year initiative to establish a warehouse and improve the livelihoods of 750 underprivileged farmers by providing them with skill development training.
A state-of-the-art warehouse with a capacity of 3,000 Metric Tons has been constructed under this project. In addition, Mahwi has implemented ISO 9001 quality standards at the warehouse, further boosting the competitiveness of local farmers. Β Β This warehouse ensured year-round quality storage and maize sales for the farmers. Best of all, the warehouse will be handed over to the cooperative Local Maize Farmers Cooperatives Union (IAIBU), which will own and manage the warehouse. Through this initiative, Mahwi has established a 1-month comprehensive training structure for 750 farmers, ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality maize for their flour and animal feed products. As a result, farmers’ income will increase by up to 130% through this project, rising from 300 Euros to around 690 Euros per season. This project aligns with No Poverty, Quality Education, and Decent Economic Growth.
We are proud to support Mahwi in this endeavour, ensuring long-term cooperation with IAIBU and continuous improvement in the farmer’s livelihoods.
